What are the positives that have bloomed in your life, or for your team? We are all called into uncharted waters. Leaders will serve their teams well, by doing a few key things.
Take care of yourself. Set time to relax, to exercise, to do nothing of importance. Connect with loved ones. Create news-free time. Just be. Breathe.
Engage your self-awareness. Explore your anxiety - name it, frame it, own it. What could you do differently tomorrow, or next week? How is your team perceiving you in this crisis?
Set time for quiet contemplation. What are you grateful for? What positive impacts have you experienced in the past week? What do you need to let go of? What beauty are you inviting in?
Provide space for your team. In 1:1 meetings and team meetings, find the positive in the disruption. Here are some good questions to ask periodically:
a) What has worked well this past week?
b) What expectations of "normal" should we let go of? Or - have you let go of?
c) How has a team member made your life easier this past week?
d) What daily routine is most valuable to you?
e) How can I help you?
This pandemic will redefine each of us. All we can control is how we respond to the redefinition. May we all choose wisely.
